The affinities of porosifrons with other wingless Mexican Calosoma, were long discussed among the specialists until Jeannel (1940:220), basing on the characteristics of its ligule, placed it finally in Blaptosoma. However, in the same time, Jeannel found it necessary to stress its relative geographic isolation in a narrow area of the north Mexico, far away from the other species of Blaptosoma.
Indeed, porosifrons is easy to recognize among the other Blaptosoma, because of its unmistakable small size and shorter shape, with oval elytra, as well as because of the characteristic large and sparse punctures on the forehead.
So far, it has been only found in a few mountainous areas of the state of Durango.

Examined specimens and literature’s data
Mexico. Durango: Refugio (SB), El Salto 2400 m (EM, SB), Otinapa (UASM); Palos Colorados (Gidaspow, 1959: 281), Santiago Papasquiaro (GP), Coyotes (Gidaspow, 1959: 281), Rio Nazas (Breuning, 1928 b: 46), Pueblo Nuevo, Km 90 on Rte. 40 from Durango city (UASM)

Notes: Brachypterous. It lives at an altitude of about 2500m in clearings, pastures and fallows. Activity was observed in cloudy daytime, but during the actual rain the beetle immediately found shelter under stones, dry dung, twigs. Adults have been found in July and August, together with larvae, but they should be active from June to September according to Erwin (2007: 104).
