Calosoma Antinorii Gestro, 1878: 318 (described from Argu Agher); type material 2 ♂♂in Museo civico di Storia naturale di Genova (examined)
Callisthenes Antinorii, Gestro, 1884: 302
Calosoma (Carabophanus) antinorii Breuning, 1928: 125
Orinodromus (Carabophanus) antinorii Jeannel, 1940: 143

Length 15-18 mm. The pronotum of C. antinorii is transverse, parallel-sided, with just protruding lobes. C. antinorii is easily distinguishable from other species of the subgenus because of its black femurs. The colour of the upper body is also blackish with greenish reflexes more evident on the edges of elytra. Moreover one longitudinal yellow band runs on the middle of each elytron. On the width of these bands are noticeable a number of slightly darker spots, aligned along the striae. The undyed parties of the elytron are perfectly smooth and uniform.
C. Antinorii is located in the south of the central region of the plateau, in the ancient Ethiopian province of Shewa.

Examined specimens and literature’s data
Ethiopia. Shewa: Argu Agher (type material MGe), Let Marafia (MGe), Entoto (MGe), road Jiuurd Debre Birhan, 2710 m (RMCA), Termaber Pass (RMCA), Mt Salale 3000m (Rougemont, 1976: 259), crater of Mount Wenchi m 3200 - 3400 m (SB), Mt Salale, Chacha valley, Duber valley (Rougemont, 1976: 259), Mt. Ouaciacia (Menaghesha National Forest) (Rougemont, 1976: 259), Mt. Mugo (at present Gurage prov.) (AVT)

Notes: Brachhypterous, the wings are reduced to a stump. Adults are primarily nocturnal and adapt to different environments such as margins of cultivated fields and pastures, around 3200 and 3400m. C. Antinorii was found in activity from Genuary up to April (Antinori, teste Gestro, 1895: 18) when the wet period begins and, according to the examined material, in the central periods of the heavy rains in July – August, and immediately after their end, in October – November. It is possible that the adults should be active during the entire rainy period.
The species is named after Orazio Antinori (1811 - 1882) Italian explorer, having a deep knowledge of the African continent. He had established a scientific station in Ethiopia at let-Marefià, where he lived from 1876 until his death.
